Wow... you know those times you just want to "go check it out" and really did not mean to make a production of things, but then something happens and POW- it is? Well, this is one of those. The Cemetery is right beside and accessed from the parking lot of the Clown Motel. It is like walking onto the set of some cemetery from a old West movie, only it IS the REAL THING. The graves are marked with carved wooden planks and many of them used parts from the mines. Rail tracks welded into a cross, long bolts done the same. Those with money had hand made iron fencing and those without have a rock with a name. Lines of graves of local business people, miners killed in the mines, local heros, gunned down sheriff's, hookers and gamblers all share this plot of ground. A section of children and babies line a hillside and show us that the past was a precarious place to live, even as a baby. If you get the chance to go to Tonopah NV, dont pass this up- especially at night.
I was instantly taken back with a heavy feel that made you look over your shoulder. The jack rabbits were the only thing living in this fenced, dirt hillside cemetery. I found it odd that birds did not land here. Everywhere else yes- here no, least while I was there. The night started early, just after dark. This was to be a short investigation as the next morning we were to be at the Tonopah mine at 5am- 100 years to the day and hour that the mine caught fire. I walked along the row of graves of those that perished in that fire. The star glow was good at this elevation and some light polution from the Clown Motel and the highway was also present but in all it was quite dark. The SpecterCamCorders IR lights seemed to be swallowed by the vast darkness. After walking the cemetery alone and doing an EVP, I decided to change to the SC3 for its better night sight and because it would make use of the starlight and not need IR or other lights. I changed equipment and set the SC3 on a wooden cross looking over a low spot in the center of the cemetery. I could watch a large portion of the area from here.
About an hour into the night (a chilling 28 degrees), my eyes had adjusted well and I stood quiet surveying the graves. It was not too long after that when I saw the most amazing thing: A somewhat self illuminating figure rose from as from a grave only (what was later measured at 90 feet) a short distance in front of me. I could make out head, shoulders and very defined legs. It started to walk at which time I looked down at the monitor to make sure that it was showing up on camera. It is one thing to see something but quite another to catch it on video. There it was- on the monitor- much brighter on camera than I could see it. It walked disapeared and then reappeared. The second time I could see the legs even better and it walked and then faded away. I stood there for a moment before CAREFULLY hitting SAVE on my mini DVR! I had not only seen an aperition but captured it on video! That is a very rare thing and I was excited to tell the others. I grabbed the camera and recorder and ran back to share this capture!
As most know, I am a skeptical believer. I know it is real and have seen the paranormal first hand. But, I look hard at any evidence- even my own. In this case, let me make it clear that I saw this with my own eyes BEFORE I looked on the monitor to make sure the camera was seeing the same.
Quite honestly, at first when my eyes saw it (that first millisecond) I felt that someone had slipped into the cemetery and was walking through. It really did look like a person in a puffy down coat- until they disapeared! Then came back!!! And, how could they have came in without me seeing or hearing it? It was the fadding away
As I watch this video over and over, it looks like the camera could have experienced a lens flare from the car on the road. In actuality, I think the car lights helped to illuminate this, not cause it. That night, the next day and the next night we did experiments to attempt to reproduce it- without being able to do do. I left this video clip somewhat long for that reason.
The footage below are frame grabs from the orignal footage that Kelly and Diana put into negative. I followed that with same frame enlarged. I think you will see that this has shape and it is pretty hard to dismiss (thanks Kelly and Diana).
The frame capture above is in negative and enlarged. The camera is having a hard time tracking it and is boxing a marker next to it. But, shown in black above is a obvious HUMAN shaped figure moving about the cemetery head shoulders arms and legs. (this is in white in the video).
Above, again in negative, you can see the figure walking, arms apear to be swinging, one leg bent as it walks.
I dont think a lens flare has head and shoulders (below). This frame has been changed into negative as well, and enlarged- but in no other way altered from the original video frame.
The Tonopah Cemetery during the day:
Taken from the entry gate area- I have placed an arrow in the area that the video above was looking at (video was taken from a position left of where this photo was taken).
